Soiree Planning, Vol. 3

21 Apr

Next step? Flowers. “The grace note of every home begins with flowers. The first impression your home makes is less about your furniture than about the sense of beauty and hospitality it conveys.” – Kate Spade

Fresh are always best, so I was thrilled when my mother-in-law planned for this beautiful arrangement of white peonies (a personal favorite) combined with light pink wax flowers to be delivered to my home from the lovely Kathy at Art of Flowers in Nipomo.

Now while I always prefer the latter, I stumbled upon these beauties recently at Michael’s Craft Store in Paso Robles and was knocked out of my shoes with the realistic look and feel. It is amazing how far faux flowers have come lately (they even have those little imperfections such as wilted edges and tears that make the real thing so appeasing)!  Plus on top of it all, they were on sale – 2 stems for only $3.00 (regularly $6.99 each). I couldn’t bring myself to say no.

Arranged in an assortment of cobalt and buttery cream ceramic vases on top of my new french blue and coral pink melamine serving tray (as seen above) and voila! Flowers… Complete.

Check out Soiree Planning Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 for the complete evolution.

Here Comes the Fete!

20 Apr

And so it begins…weddings, baby showers and birthday parties galore! Needless to say my weekends are quickly filling up (as are everyone else’s) and while my closet is booming with lovely pieces from season’s past, it seems to be whispering in my ear “replenish me.”  So lately I have been on the hunt for a new number that screams the word versatility, and with that comes some important criteria:

1. Must be appropriately colored to carry me through spring and into the future holiday season (I hate pieces that are adaptable-y challenged).

2. Must be sleek enough for evening gatherings but subdued enough for day time events.

3. Must be suitably sexy in certain areas but not distracting from the “person” of the hour.

After some time surfing the internet I came across the above number by Elizabeth and James appropriately named “Fete Dresson sale at Diani Boutique in Santa Barbara. The perfect (and multi-seasonal) Cobalt blue, puffy ¾ length sleeves, alluring v-neck and ideal length make the Fete Dress a lovely candidate for my upcoming calendar of events.

I’ve Got a Golden Ticket

8 Apr

Ah, the joys of an intriguing deal. Last night I opened my inbox to find an email from Coverings in downtown San Luis Obispo. What I love about their emails is…that they are worth reading!!! Yes, sometimes you jump to the bottom of the page like a kid on Christmas morning, eager to find out what the point of the email is. Almost 99% of the time, it’s a sale of some sort. And 24 hours ago, when I opened mine (titled “chocolate”) I was thrilled.

I am not going to state what the email entailed exactly (you have to sign up for their email list to find out), but let’s just say it involved a “golden ticket”, three-days only, and a killer deal. I knew instantly what I wanted, the coveted Michael Kors Chronograph Gold Watch.

This watch is perfection personified in a time piece: classic gold, reasonably priced and would look amazing on a wrist overflowing with gold-toned bracelets. I obsessed over the possibility all day long, imagining all the different ways I could wear the watch, only to discover this evening that I was too late, Coverings had sold out of all the gold-toned Michael Kors watches.

Nevertheless, I continued to peruse the racks of perfect spring wear and came across this little lacy number by Sunday Rocks (and in the perfect shade of grey no less).

End result, my golden ticket scored me a great find!
