Lovely PR

Paso Robles that is. This last weekend I spent a little “girl” time in Paso Robles Wine Country, wandering the downtown streets, dining at quaint neighborhood eateries, putting in a little light shopping…and of course drinking some lovely local wine.

Why Visit: Just a quick trip away, Paso Robles has the canny ability to transport you to another world. Uncharted back country roads lined with eerie, gnarly oak trees, good ol’ boy mentality combined with progressive epicurean delights, and you have a great weekend in store.

Where to eat: Try Villa Creek  (for killer margaritas), or Thomas Hill Organics (for the best, locally sourced sustainable cuisine). New to the area…Il Cortile (the Osso Bucco is off the charts delicious).

Where to stay: You cannot go wrong with Hotel Cheval (be sure to take a ride in the carriage drawn by Chester, the resident Belgian draft horse), or check out the many picturesque vacation rentals by Paso Robles Vacation Rentals (from 1 bedroom to luxury Paso Robles estates).

Where to drink: Venture out and try the delicious wines of Jada Vineyards, Halter Ranch, and Denner Vineyards (all worth the drive…and not to mention a beautiful one). Staying close to downtown? Check out Kiamie Wine Cellars, or walk to the Meritage Wine Lounge to sample a plethora of fabulous, small lot production Paso Robles wines from the vintners themselves (so convenient).

Where to shop: We Olive (has the most darling collection of handmade olive oil based soaps, and not to mention an incredible EVOO supply), Firefly (I still cannot decide if I am more besotted with the contents of this store or it’s whimsical window display), Powell’s Sweet Shoppe (because discovering your favorite childhood sweet previously assumed extinct can seriously make your day).
